That is a great Idea, Pete. But have you tried a 'Brother' labeler with black ink and clear tape? I have started using one on my Dansco album for the custom coins I added. (I too have VERY bad handwriting).
I used 6 MM tape and is nearly invisible.

here is an example on my labeling:
