The brick-red look on wheat cents is not that uncommon--a result of environmentally-caused staining/toning/surficial corrosion. I've come across several 100s of similar cents over many years of coin searching. Need full, large and sharp pics of the coin's reverse. Initially, my reaction is you're seeing nicks and dings taken in circulation. Better pics will provide better information.

brickmasterjimmy, What is your coin photos taking set-up? You need to take and post better photos for us to really help you. The "red" on that coin is not what is referred to as red or red/brown or brown when talking about natural "red" toning. John1
( I'm no pro, it's just my humble opinion ) Searched 6.5 +/- Million Cents Since 1971

with above. On the reverse from the image presented (the really small one) it looks like the 'N' took a circulation hit, and again just NE of the N as well.

The only issue on the reverse is that it is damaged.

Or could it be a blood stain from a soldier during WW1 and the coin also was hit by a small caliber bullet .

Could be paint or nail polish that has been there for years. Probably spent some time in an old album. Just a Wheat cent now. (This year didn't have a VDB on the shoulder. That started on the 1918 cents. One the last years of the wide rims. (these altered the die wear on the dies)

T-BOP You will find a lot of cents with this color, I don't know what it is or why, but it must be from exposure to a certain chemical. I've thought about trying to put a complete red collection together for fun.
