If these are raised above the fields, it may be linear plating bubbles. The copper plating has slightly pulled away from the zinc core.

I have seen zinc core Lincoln cents with large plating bubbles that cover 25% or more of the coin.

...both are too straight to be die cracks...could the dies have been scratched with perpendicular lines...could be but the simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

Possibly if the zinc planchet was damaged in such away that when the copper coating was applied, the lines on the zinc caused poor adhesion with the copper coating.
