I believe I have two 1934-D VAM-3 ( DDO) coins I recently bought off eBay where neither seller did not attribute them. I think I got a decent deal even if they do not have that much added value. One is in better condition than the other and I am guessing both have been cleaned. Do you think they are worth sending to be graded/authenticated? Either way they were a fun find. Thanks,

I'm a little baffled...? When I look at your full obverse pics and zoom in...I'm not seeing the doubled tiara like I see in the 2nd pics...of both coins...?
So...the 2nd pics you posted of the obverse...are they your coin(s) or just put there for reference...?

I stand corrected

The pictures do have bad lighting though.

I think both of them may be the VAM-3 DDO. The close ups are of the same coins and show the doubled tiara rays very clearly, but for some reason it's not showing up well in the full coin images. Probably due to the lighting angle. The filled mintmarks are also consistent with VAM-3. Nice pickups!

Sorry if the full photos do not show up well. The close ups are of the same coins.

Poor lighting aside, does it pay to have one or both coins sent in for grading?

That's cool...now that I zoom in on the 1st full obv pic of coin 1...I can make out the faint doubling on the bridge of the nose and lips.
This definitely is the only one I would consider sending off for grading. I would probably send it to Variety Slabbing Service (VSS) for John Baumgart (messydesk) to attribute. He is a mod at VAMWORLD and always has a bulk submission open to send to PCGS. If you go to VAMWORLD you can find the bulk submission post inside Buy, Sell, Trade.
I think these are the best prices around...you just have to wait and be patient until he receives 100 coins to send to PCGS...they grade them then he attributes them. His attribution stickers are now recognized at Great Collections Auction.

Good luck and keep us posted with an update if you send her off!

These are fairly common. I wouldn't spend my money to have them slabbed and attributed. There really isn't much, if at all premium on them IMHO. While they are cool die varieties, you could likely pick 3 to 4 off Ebay at any time.

I should also say that the coin(s) look to be mid-AU or lower. This just reinforces my opinion. But obviously you can try what you want.

Thanks smat for your suggestion. I will look into this option. "Vams'" comments are also valid and I am on the fence about whether it is worth getting the better coin graded. This is why I posted the question. An EF40 is worth about $200 (and it might grade a little higher). However, as you say there are at least two listed on eBay now w/o attribution and there are more than a dozen with attribution. So its not clear if you could get $200 even in a slab.
