Hello,

I don't come across many of these in Rome... They are priced at $275 each, sold in a paid for $549....

Any thoughts, opinions, etc. Would be appreciated.... Mostly I want to think out loud and let this stew for a little while....

If this was a few years ago, I would say you overpaid.

But with the recent skyrocketing price of these, you did good.

I haven't bought them yet.... But I'm reluctant. I think common-ish ccs are in a bubble.

Plus, I feel there's a lot of pent up supply of these that's set to release when collectors cash out or downsize... Not sure....

The 62 is over graded, the 61 looks to be about right.
Both have good luster.

I toured Italy for about 3 months in 2018, and made a point of seeking seeking out any coins for sale in shop windows.
I formed the opinion at the time that almost all of the coins I saw were overpriced, especially above average American coins.
Perhaps the dealers perceived I was a tourist and not a serious collector, and so could get away with a higher price.

Actually, about 10 years earlier in Vegas and saw a few Roman coin for sale including some gold aureii. I shouldn't have opened my mouth. As soon as my Aussie accent was heard, the price went up quite a bit, dealers probably thinking I perhaps knew only a little about Roman coins. The dealers failed to make a sale.

Perhaps I may have been better off if, I was looking for American coins

Moral: perhaps it is better to know and work within the market you know,
better for both the dealer and the collector.

I don't collect CC Morgans and so I had better not offer a price opinion in this case, and leave that to other CCF'ers.
Pity,
I missed my chance when about 30 years ago, a whole cache of them were released into the market.

@sel... Coin shops here are heinously overpriced... Think €60 for a common date Morgan. I have only bought a few coins at coin shops. Nearly everything I find I find in used market (mercatino dell'usato) where sellers consign their stuff to the shop and split sales 50/50. Prices drop 20+50% after two months. Every post I've made on this site is from a coin I bought in this manner.

I'd warn anyone and everyone to stay away from coin shops in Rome. Nearly everything can be found cheaper online. However, what tourists don't fully understand or embrace when visiting here is thay nearly everything is negotiable and cash is a major lubricant to those negotiations.

** I will add to my comments above... There are two or three shops in Rome that are knowledgeable and have a wonderful selection of ancients. The prices are reasonable and there's some added value to the variety available in stock.
And... I have been to one very good bullion coin shop...up north in Turin. A few private dealers too.
