to the CCF We are going to need to see clear photos of both sides but it sounds like it is just an aftermarket gold plated quarter.

to the CCF. Agree this sounds like an aftermarket plated quarter. None of them have any numismatic premium.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.artToo many hobbies .... too much work .... not enough time.

I don't think the OP has one, just seeking information.

HSN altered these with plating: Just spenders now. The plating alters the surface.

And the ones offered online for $5000? That's what someone who doesn't know what it is is trying to sell it for. No one is actually buying one for that price.
Currently working on: Australia type set Canada type set Three from each country (up to 416!) UK 20th and 21st century IHC's! NGC certified MS-62 or better, 87%, Capital Plastics Fine or better, 97%, Caps Fine or better, 98% Dansco any x3, 90%, 63%, 37% and Coin Board for wall display, any grade, 97%.. Weights would be different on these: Quarters Clad would be 5.67 grams. And these coins would probably have the wider copper edge. (Not plated) The Sac planchets will be 8.1 grams. So that would be the differences in weight. Seems they would mention this on the slab if that is the case. If this happened, it was probably the handy work of the worker that altered the $1.25 coins? Would also explain a few wrong metal coins as well: Funny how we can link things back to mint assisted events in a discussion? How to tell the fakes from the real deals? All comes down to weight. State Quarters gold plated/platinum plated/or mint errors. How to tell the real from the fakes? CoopHome: How to tell the real deal on the mint errors, or HSN sales to the rubes? weight.
