So I got the PL 1967 quarter, not the best pics ik, but its one of the nicest and best specimens of the DDR ive found for this quarter. also there is this odd discoloration on the rims. There opaque indents like metal has been shaved off its at 5 o clock on the reverse and at 7 o clock on the reverse aswell as exact opposite to that at 1:30. idk what it is...
Unfortunately this is a form a Master Die Doubling, I discovered this a couple of months ago and upon further research deemed it as unfortunately being common.
As for the whole split serifs dilemma, they my not be technically "serifs" in the world of correct font descriptions, however it is a widely accepted term used by hundreds, if not thousands of collectors who are explaining where the splitting/spread has taken place.
When you say "serif" folks almost instantly know exactly where to look, so it stuck.
