From what I understand this is a rare date for a clip and that this would be considered a rather large clip. Kinda normal for some of the older dates but I checked ebay and of the three for sale the least expensive was $175. Never knew such a modest clip could be worth so much, but then none of them have actually sold, so... 2005-P Jefferson nickel (Ocean in View) mint error - clipped planchet

Nice coin. I just checked eBay sold values for one like yours and did not see any sold ones. People can ask whatever price they want but that does not mean someone would pay that amount. John1

Nice clip TB. I'm trying to remember if I saw any nickel clips or errors at the Orlando FUN show or our local show the following weekend. I'm drawing a blank but imagine they would actually have to be under $100 to move.

Just curious why there doesn't appear to be any Blakesley effect on the obverse and it looks quite minimal on the reverse?

Nice find TB. Quote: Just curious why there doesn't appear to be any Blakesley effect It also does not have that 'Frank' effect, (or is it the 'Bill' effect - I forget the name, LOL)

All kidding aside, I seriously am looking for an experienced opinion concerning the lack of the Blakesley effect on the obverse. I am not suggesting anything is wrong with the OP's coin, just trying to expand my knowledge on these types of errors.

Yes, the coin shows fairly strong Blakesley effect on the reverse. And also noticed was the general lack of normal-looking terminal clip ends which totally lack the Smith Effect. It is actually one I thought might generate some "is it legit" comments as the clip itself shows little to verify it is a real clip at a glance. I didn't do a close up but there is also nice distortion on the 5, P, and tail end of LIBE.
I did talk to a dealer who said he paid $100 for one of these in a PCGS slab, so somewhere there must be an established value for him to think it was worth that much. And still, the reason I asked him was because he still had the coin in his shop as it had not sold. Seems like there is some mythology that these are worth a lot but the facts don't really bear it out. Maybe there is an auction house that has sold one so will try that next.

One would think that given the large area of the clip, the upsetting mill would have produced much flatter rims opposite the clip. Perhaps I am not well versed in the operation of the upsetting mill. The reverse does display minor flatness but I would think it would be more drastic considering the size of the clip.
