Old Numerian: New Numerian: Numerian (A.D. 283-284) AE Antoninianus, A.D. 283-284, Rome, 21.56mm, 3.66g, 180°, RIC Vii 41 Obv: IMP NVMERIANVS AVG. Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. I like the VNDIQUE VICTORES reverse, though, on the first coin, it's quite a bit scarcer, although the sentiment expressed by that legend may have been a bit premature, or perhaps wishful thinking... I have a strong leaning towards the Lugdunum mint and added one Numerian to my pile this year. It is a scarcer type for this emperor and the grade is acceptable too thought I must admit that grade is not my primary driver in collecting. Numerian Antoninianus Obv:- IMP C NVMERIANVS AVG, Radiate, cuirassed bust right Rev:- VIRTVS AVGG, Virtus standing left holding Vicotry, who is holding a wreath and palm and inverted spear Mint - Lugdunum (C \| _) Emission 9 Officina 3. Bastien 538, RIC 393 Bust Type C 3.47 gms, 22.87 mm. 180 degrees Obv:- IMP C M AVR NVMERIANVS AVG, Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from the rear Rev:- PAX AVGG, Pax standing left, holding olive-branch and sceptre Minted in Lugdunum (A in right field) Emission 6 Officina 1. August A.D. 283 - start A.D. 284 Reference:- Cohen 50. Bastien 534 (1 example in Berlin) RIC 393 var. Bust Type C (Not listed with this officina in RIC) 3.27 gms, 22.31 mm. 0 degrees Obv:- IMP C NVMERIANVS AVG, Radiate, cuirassed bust right Rev:- MARS VICTOR, Mars walking right holding trophy and spear Minted in Lugdunum (C in right field) Emission 6, Officina 3.
