The mint made changes every year in that era. The '82 looks a lot like the '81 and has broader designs and less field while the '83 has narrow designs, lower relief, and more fields. They also started lower the rim in 1983 which was most pronounced on the'84 which had very very low rims. The '84 will be almost impossible to find in nice VF or better because it's the rims which protect the design from wear and abrasion.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Yes. The fields (flat sections) are broader and the design element (lettering and bust) are larger on the '82.
There are a few variation within the years as well but very small.

http://www.varietyvista.com/09b%20W...arieties.htmVariety Vista lists most major design changes for each denomination. Looks like ODV-016 ended in 1982. In 1983, they switched to ODV-017. You should be able to see a considerable difference to the words In God We Trust, as well as many smaller changes.

It's not that offen a collector notices the minute changes/refinements the mint makes on current designs. Finding a nice example of 1982 or 1983 is tough since the mint ceased set issuance those years, instead selling souvenier sets directly from the Philadelphia/Denver gift shops. While still relatively available, they are valued far above the other years.
