Hi all. What's going on with Lincoln's eye? Is this a die scratch, or something else.
Thanks, Mike

There are no Doubled Die Obverse listings for this Date/MM combination at Coppercoins' site. Looks like one of the Doubled Eyelids I have seen on other dates there, but I would wait for the experts opinion on this one, it could go either way, die scratch/gouge or doubling.

In my opinion, with that much separation you would think that there would be other areas doubled, but the Single Squeeze die preparation has produced quite a few coins with doubling closer to the center of the coin- and only there. Good Luck !

Did you test it for being a bubble?

Yes. I pressed on it with a shaved toothpick. It doesn't seem to be a bubble. I'll try for a better pic. My eyes were tired.

Must be a gouge, can't see what it would be doubling.

You're probably right rockdude. I haven't seen one like it before, so I thought I'd post it.

If it were a doubled die I think it would look like this 1946, notice the angle on the doubling.

Point out specifically what you are looking at. I don't see anything yet but a normal cent.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill...there is a raised protrusion coming directly out of the eyeball.

It's a die gouge. It does not have the correct angle or shape for a doubled eyelid.
