So this date seems semiscarce? Im always looking for new pickups and bargain finds. And its also a great way to learn more What do we think of this one? VF? details or straight?   Edited by Moniker

I would put this in some acetone. The obverse looks a little green, possibly some PVC? Hard to provide a grade as shown.

 . If you don't mind it being a details coin, I'd say buy it. Errers and Varietys.

I am not sure the OP coin is genuine as the inner loop on the 9 curls up. I am not sure how many die pair were used on the 1919 S, but I could not find one genuine example on coin facts that the 9 curls up.  Genuine PCGS Example  |

thank you for input guys, I does look like it has a thick layer of patina/tarnish on photos. Thanks Slider I hade no idea about that will check for more examples I see that there is some variation in the numbers on other coins and maybe placing of S, interesting maybe a chinese fake. Did find one that had a small lump instead of end of the curl. must find it again   Edited by Moniker

There were 4 obverse die pairs used on the 1919 S SLQ. The die pairs are identified by the position of the S mint mark.
Die Pair 1: The most standard variety where the 'S' mintmark is centered horizontally and vertically over the lowermost star on the left side of the date panel.
Die Pair 2: Features a tilted 'S' mintmark that leans noticeably to the right, positioned slightly higher than in Die Pair 1.
Die Pair 3: The 'S' sits closer to the bottom star than in the other pairings and is often rotated or slightly tilted counter-clockwise.
Die Pair 4: The 'S' is placed distinctly far to the right, closer to the central figure of Lady Liberty than to the edge pedestals.
I am going to stop short of calling the OP coin a counterfeit, but would I buy the coin? NO

Thanks for further explanation slider. Shes not a looker but if I get her for 50-60 dollars and a full refund I think I will go for it. If real she might be a filler for someone. baring the fact that it might be a fake, the coin looks like it sat in a vat of lye or something caustic

yes that or covered but a thick layer of goo. Thanks for all inputs. I will post better pics if I decide to buy it.

say its a VF35. straight it would be about $500 raw. I guess $50 would be decent price but you better be willing to for the rest of your life. its not a collectable coin per se and if you are using it as a filler, its going to really stick out as a sore thumb in an album. personally i'd rather have a straight AG3 which I seen for $57 on ebay |
