This is my coin but I don't have any information on it's history. I suspect it may have spent some time underground. I believe it has the reverse of 1797 but I can't see any other details indicating the specific variety. I put it at FR2 [Details] but would appreciate others opinions.  Edited by lahave56

Based on pictures, I'd say Fair details is correct. I don't think there's enough details left for it to grade AG details. Nice coin!  Errers and Varietys.

Agree with FR details, and very close to AG details. I lightened the lower parts of the coin, and there might be enough detail to attribute the variety. It's at least a 2nd hair style, and it might be an S-182.

Thanks everyone for the opinions.
@Zurie Can you tell me what detail(s) lead you to a possible S-182 attribution? Is it the leaves overlapping the T in Cent? I don't have a reference to see what comprises the S-182 variety. From what I can gather S-182 is not easy to come by.

It's not easy when many important landmarks are obliterated. First, you can tell it's a 2nd hair style, which cuts the possibilities in half. But there are still about 20 potential Sheldon varieties left. You can look at the positioning of LIBERTY in relation to the hair, the position and spacing of the date, the length and direction of the stem ends, the closeness of CENTS to the ribbon, the spacing of 1/100, etc. The position of the leaves in relation to USA is usually very helpful, but not in this case. Here's your coin edited to see more detail, and an example of S-182.   Edited by Zurie

@Zurie thank you for the attribution markers and especially for taking the time to examine the coin in detail. Some of these references can be a little pricey depending on how often one might use/need them so we're fortunate to have a forum like this with experts like you who are willing to take the time to help when needed. I've used online resources when available and I kind of enjoy the process myself. Thanks!
