I was looking for a thread on toned coins, but I couldn't find one so I decided to start one. You can post pics of any toned coin, whether it's U.S or foreign, just any coin that's toned. I don't have many , so I just decided to post one I found while roll hunting.

Wow those are really nice. I usually don't see wheat cents with toning.

You can't really see it that well in the scan, but the left side of the obverse (from the rim to about the "B: in liberty) is bright blue. The rest of the obverse is an interesting orange & purple rainbow-like color. So do toned coins like these actually carry any kind of premium?

I'm not sure, although on ebay, people seem to pay a premium for any kind of attractively toned coin. Just my opinion. BTW, nice coins, everybody.

My camera's not so good, it's horrible at picking up toning, especially on copper coins. Still, here are the better examples of what I have: Scuffs are on the plastic holding the coin, not the coin itself. The camera only picked it up a little, but most of the obverse is covered with striking metallic green toning. In person, this nickel is even more pink, blue, and gold. One almost never comes across toned Standing Liberty quarters. This is from a 1988 proof set where the Nickel, Quarter, and Half are all toned to an electric blue. In addition, the nickel has a ring of gold around the rim and, although it doesn't show in the picture, is starting to get pink areas. None of these are particularly impressive but I thought I'd contribute.

Those are really nice BadThad, any idea what caused the toning? Here's one of my toned wheats. There's some nasty white crud on the bottom of the cent, any idea on how to get rid of that?

Love the toned coins! Some nice cents here and I bet that SLQ looks even better in hand.
