Found these MDing other day. pretty rough shape, was wondering if any 1 was familiar w/ these?
Says Columbia Packing Co. Good for 10 pounds ---- Herring

what would b a good way to clean these up w/o further damage?

Being brass, olive oil soak? I dont clean anything up. My son tried vinegar bath once, it totally stripped off all brass & left enourmous pits.

First off nice find. These look like beach finds. If brass/copper soak in olive oil and litely pic at them every now and then with a tooth pick. If nickel type soak in white vinegar. If aluminum good luck. WOLF
