I do not see anything going on with this coin.

this is a heavily worn coin, its tough to say how it happened.
The coin in that area along the rim looks slightly bent as well.
sometimes a coin rolling machine can affect the outer area of the coin.
Look for a circular scratch in places near the rim, about same distance away.

If it was near mint state (like new) I'd offer more suggestions.
