1852 Large Cent? - Coin Community Forum

I know this is my first post on this site so I want to thank everyone in advance for their input and thoughts. I have been collecting for many years but rarely post on any forums. I am seeking help on a coin that I came across in my collection that I am not sure where it came from but is interesting. Take a look at let me know what you think. I think it is some sort of brockage but it is on both obverse and reverse. The dating is 1852 but the weight is about 14.14 grams and the coin measures roughly 29mm which is larger and heavier than a normal large cent of that date. Any help would be appreciated. I know the pictures are not the best but hopefully you can make out everything. Report this Post to the Staff

CBJesse New Member United States 26 Posts	Posted 05/31/2014 10:52 pm I'm no error expert but it appears to be a "squeeze job". Someone flattened out a large cent or used a worn coin and then put it between two other large cents in a vice. Jesse Report this Post to the Staff

I have a counterfeit 1888 nickel that looks pretty much the same way. I don't know why someone would use a larger, heavier copper planchet to make a counterfeit. may have been someone trying to make a fake error coin. Report this Post to the Staff
