This is my high school graduation present from my mother.

However, this is my first ancient and I know absolutely nothing other than what the ebay listing tells me. 161318114574

So, here are my questions:

-Is it genuine, and if so did we get a good deal?
-I'm a bit OCD about all my coins having catalog numbers- where can I find one for this?

Thanks!

I'm not an expert on Parthian coins so I can't speak to its authenticity but I like it!

The price seems in line with what are listed on vcoins:
http://www.vcoins.com/en/Search.asp...OnSale=False

The ebay listing has the catalog references:

Sellwood 52.16; Shore 283; Sunrise 393

can't see your ebay link.

I was guessing it was phraates iv, but not sure. interesting that the Wikipedia page for phraates iv has a similar coin pictured..

I'm not a Parthian expert (or an anything expert for that matter), but it looks ok to me. in fact it looks gorgeous. check the weight, should be just under 4 grams or so.

Congrats on graduating high school and on a nice acquisition...and welcome to the world of Parthian coin collecting! The coin looks fine and, yes, it's a Parthian drachm from the reign of Phraates IV, c.38 - 2 B.C. I concur on the citation: Sellwood 52.16. The mint was Laodicea. For a brief bio of Phraates IV, see http://parthia.com/phraates4.htm#Type_52

Pars coins is a well-known professional ancient coin dealer with a vcoins shop. You can be sure it is genuine.
