I have the opportunity to purchase an American Silver Eagle Set from 1986-2008 for $500. They are in BU condition. I am fairly new but I love this coin set. I also want to look at this for a future investment. I just want to make sure that I am not overspending on this. Thanks for everybody's input.

I have seen certified sets (NGC) go for anywhere from $675 to $750 for 1986-2006. This is for the regular strikes, not the proofs. Are these certified or not? Also, are ALL the Eagles included (like the 2006-W) etc or is there just 1 from each year? RedBook lists 1986 thru 2007 at $445. |

These are not certified. They are in a Dansco Album. Very nice looking in my opinion. It is just one from each year. Does this help?

On ebay, there are several similar sets that sold for $525 and up. There are also sets that have sold for under $500. I think $500 is fair, but you may be able to get a better deal if you keep looking. I purchased this same set about 2 weeks ago, BU uncertified in an album for $479.00. Very happy with coins.......no 2006 W. Would have paid up to $500 if need be. Sounds like a fair deal.

i think the price was reasonable...you can save a few dollars by scoping the scene, but not much more...also, if the set included the 2006 w I would expect it to also carry the 2007 w which mosts sets for sale in the variety you are searching for do not...the 06 w alone runs over a hundred dollars...typically the complete set of proof and bu strikes can run uypwards of 1500 clams...ouch!

I just sold 1 in January for NGC grade $799.00 plus s/h after all fee it can to about $765.00. so at $500.00 make melt+5%? price.
but I wont spend $159-200.00 more for a NGC graded set!

I would save my money and buy a NGC MS-69 certified set. although I own plenty of loose eagles, it is my certified set I treasure. most believe coins are not conscidered investment grade unless they are MS-65 or above. also be aware of any milky surfaces on the coins.

I started my set in 1986 and added to it each year.
Nothing super special, but I sure like the coins.
