Mine came today, a proof 3 piece set and the silver 1$ + Clad 1/2$ (the latter 2 for my type set book). They are beautiful coins and while the gold is very nice, the 1$ flying eagle is a keeper. The clad is okay but my wife, who is smarter than me, thinks it's beautiful.

I had some material in the $1 and 50c cases but since they were going in albums, no problem. Still, I'd sure like to see more care. Proof 69 would be my rating - I don't think they would quite hit 70.

You may find it interesting that, of all things, I compare proofs to a couple of SBA Proof Dollars I have. They are drop dead PF 70's DCAM and my bench mark. Unfortunately, that quality SBA makes them worth $2 instead of $1 but it's okay, any coin is striking in that condition.

Yeah, rough handling by the Mint or Processing Center really stinks..... I've never sent anything back, but If we all did that enough maybe they'd start firing some people who are shipping out "damaged coins". A Proof coin or set is SUPPOSED to be a PERFECT thing of beauty ! And when it comes to you with "material" stuck in there ......or in my cases.... "scratches" on the plastic casings, rips or tears in the "blue velvet" part of the containers and the coins even "suspect" in condition, well.......it just, many times, has NOT been the condition that I hoped and expected.
Regardless.......I can't wait until my set arrives too ! And I got an "extra" Silver Commerative Bald Eagle Dollar too....... Hope they're purty !!

Things from the Mint can have problems and this is not a new thing. The Eisenhower dollar "Brown Boxes" were notorious for allowing the Dollars to get "cloudy".

MLFLY, IMHO you made a good choice on pulling them out of the OGP and putting them in albums!

I used to get Proof Sets every year from the mint. My 1982 set had a problem. The Quarter was not inserted all the way and part of its edge was touching the plastic holder. It bothered me, but I kept it anyway for some reason I do not remember (maybe I just did not want the hassle). Later on, I broke apart all of my proof sets and put them in albums. When I did, I found the Quarter was fine and all of the "damage" I saw was just the plastic! I also found that all of my proofs looked much "happier" in an album along side their business strike brethren.
