Several years ago I found a 1875 H dime in VF condition with my metal detector. Coin prices magazine May 2008 edition has these values.
1875 H VF 1,000,000 $1000.00
1872 H VF 1,000,000 $300.00
1882 H VF 1,000,000 $60.00
1874 H VF 600,000 $45.00

What makes the 75 H more valuable than the 72 or the 82 with the same mintage of 1,000,000 and way more valuable than the 74 with only 60% of the mintage.. I would like to know this. Thank You.

Very good find! Charlton lists VF-20 at $1,500.00.

So Chartlon says "through a clerical error part of the mintage of 1874H dated coins was assigned to the next years' production figures..." which would be 1875H.

The estimated figures were 1,000,000 (1874H) - 600,000 (1875H).

Keep in mind that these numbers are estimates. 1875H is in fact *a lot* harder to find than 1871.

Marc
