Hey there! So I am new around here......Just picked up my first "Real" purchase from a local coin shop where I have been purchasing my raw bullion for years! I trust the guy enough to not rip me off "to much" but also expect him to make his profit! So tell me Coin Community......how bad did I get ripped off/did I? 1946 Silver Walking Liberty half dollar American Eagle in MS66 by PCGS. What does the Coin:59 Mean exactly in relation to this coin? I have looked through the bar-code and researched the different years that these were put out, 1946 has a large mint date so I don't know if this was exactly a "good" purchase. I paid $175, and just want to see what the general population thinks about what I paid for it!      Edited by Mench

Nice Walker but no MM which would be located on reverse bottom left side . I do not collect slabbed coins so not to sure about #59

I don't think you got ripped off at all. That is a beautiful coin. Look on the bay, everyone listed there is asking for way more. The only sold listing that I saw there had a CAC sticker and sold for $275. I saw good deal if not great deal.
I think!! the old holder had the numbers that represented which coin it was. So every 1946 Philadelphia would have the #59.

Also, if by "large mint" you mean a high number of coins minted.
Although it wasn't low,the 1946 was not one of the high mintage of the series. That honor hours to the 1941-1945 Philly mint. A combined total of 184 million for those years!
By comparison the 46 was a bit over 12 and actually lower than 1917.

Glad to hear I didn't get a bad deal, I will make sure to head back to that store to make my next weekly purchase...

PCGS numbered the different US series starting I think with the capped bust left Half Cent as #1. The Walking lLiberty half is series 45. Then within each series they started with the first years coin form Philadelphia as coin # 1, Denver coin #2 etc. In the 45 series ( Walking Liberty halves) the 59th coin is the 1946 P half dollar. PCGS began putting the series and coin numbers on the front labels in Jan 1999 and continued to do so through Nov 2005. I believe your coin was slabbed sometime between 2004 and Nov 2005. I have one PGCS 66 walker. A 46D I paid $120 in 2012. I have several PGCS 65 walkers that might regrade 66. Paid $90 to $110; 2005-2013. If I like the coin for the price, I buy the coin (not the slab). Although when it's time to sell, love to have PGCS green label. Most of my 65 & 66 lib nickels are in green PGCS. Price went from $100-$200 to $500-$600 in 1981.

I just want to make sure that I don't get taken TO MUCH, if that makes any sense...
I may want to trade coins or resell for future buys later on so I just want to make sure that I am getting close to a fair price so I don't lose a huge % off the premium alone!
