I was curious whether there was anything that can be determined about this Buffalo nickel and what level of interest there was in such a coin.

Thanks!

There are acid products such as Nic-A-Date which will restore the date, and satisfy your curiosity, but the coin will no longer have any numismatic value (of course, as a dateless Buffalo nickel, it doesn't have much numismatic value anyway.) Vinegar also works, if a bit slower.

Here is my mini price guide for your coin if after being acid treated turns out to be a key date:
1913 S Type 2: $30
1916 DDO: $1,300
1918/7 D: $105

You can either do nic-a-date which comes in a bottle for a couple dollars or a vinegar hydrogen peroxide mix. Here's a link to an older topic of mine when I did the vinegar mix.

Thanks for the link Alex. I haven't heard of this but will definitely keep it in mind. It seems the vinegar and hydrogen peroxide worked well.

A single dateless buffalo is best left as a tip at your favourite sit down cafe.

The chances of it having the value of the Nick-a-date itself is infinitesimal.

The vinegar and peroxide works very well . And if your able to bring up a key date it will have some value .

Most agree with mox - unless you plan on doing a lot of these, the prep cost probably isn't worth it.

Bruce , you forgot when I did over 400 dateless Buff's last summer ? For me it was worth it . Brought up some nice dates and mints including a 1926-S .

Unless you have hundreds of dateless buffaloes you're willing to acid date buying a bottle of nic-a-date probably isn't worth it.

You could put it in some vinegar for a few days to see what happens (instructions can be found on Google) or give it to a kid who likes coins.

The last two digits look like 27 to me, or maybe I'm just crazy.
