spru Bedrock of the Community United States 12477 Posts	Posted 10/14/2018 02:08 am I don't see split plating in the pics. That would show the gray color of the zinc core. I think this is Die Deterioration Doubling. Note that the effect gets more pronounced as it moves toward the rim. That means that metal flow and subsequent die wear are the culprits. This can also happen with split plating, but I don't see the split.
