I would like to know if this is a true variety or post damage? seems like a deliberate design element rather than a scratch/ding. thanks for your help

That's just a scratch unfortunately, not an error. It's Post Strike Damage ( PSD).

It looks like scratches, albeit oddly haunting. I would spend it ASAP.

I have to agree. Something about the scratches looks weird but I'm sure that's all it is. I can't imagine a scenario at the Mint that would have caused this.

May have been a knife or box cutter. Note the width is constant. The bottom of the scratch is flat.

Thanks... looking at 1/2 dozen of these and this one with that crazy just popped out at me. I agree , even though hard to believe someone would, it's deliberate scratched in.
