Machine Doubling and the very common Master Die Doubling on the 1972 LMC's. All 3 mints were affected by this.

My first clue was looking at the '9' on the date. While it was flattened a bit form the top of that area, I discovered years ago the fastest way to search 1972 cents for doubled die obverses. What was my clue?

The '9' is the clue. Note the arrows on these images. Save yourself a lot of time on using this clue. The sharper that corner where the white arrow is, the stronger the doubled die is.
