2018 Michigan ATB Error On Obv. Double Ear?

JamesGang00 New Member United States 11 Posts	Posted 05/10/2020 9:48 pm Hello everyone, I came across this earlier it's a 2018 Michigan ATB Washington quarter. I noticed on the Obverse, what looked like a double ear on Washington? What do you guy's & gals think? Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 05/10/2020 11:12 pm This is Machine Doubling. Note it only shows on the inverted image. Did you note on the normal image there is not doubling? You are seeing MD reducing the devices. Because it is flat, the glare hides it on the normal image. You are looking in the correct area for the DDO, but this is just Machine Doubling. On the normal image it should appear as raised: Note how the doubled ear is not part of the lobe, but an addition to the lobe. On your coin the reduction caused by MD, reduced the existing lobe. The extra lobe is an addition to the lobe. Report this Post to the Staff
sosicoin Valued Member United States 393 Posts	Posted 05/10/2020 11:17 pm Hi, JamesGang00. The 1st bluish picture shows a doubled ear but the 2nd picture is not showing the doubled ear. Can you please take pictures focusing on the ear without the color for the experts to determine if your coin has doubled ear... Thanks. Report this Post to the Staff
