coinsdk New Member United States 4 Posts	Posted 08/23/2020 8:42 pm Hello, I am struggling to find information in regards to the 1990 D penny as most of the information related to 1990 is the no S version and the copper planchet error. Is the feature in the photo an error or just an issue with the plating? Thanks so much for any replies. Report this Post to the Staff

ijn1944 Bedrock of the Community United States 19330 Posts	Posted 08/23/2020 8:50 pm That's a split plating occurrence. Copper plating splits occasionally when the coin is struck, leaving the fresh zinc exposed. Report this Post to the Staff

Found the dark corner where I threw my change. Never realized how much depth there is to currency and I have always liked looking at things up close so I had a microscope already.
