Looks like a knife job. I.e., someone carved the "x" into it. Nothing known is similar as a VAM. All coins like this turn out to be the cause of knife carving.

How can it be from a knife if the die break is raised? It's clearly a raised die break from nose and mouth to the stars? Obverse. Wouldn't a knife cause an indention?
