Australia 1922 3-D With Raised Line In Reverse Shield

KurtS Pillar of the Community United States 5318 Posts	Posted 04/10/2009 12:45 am Finding this coin in the shop today, I was immediately struck by something in the shield I've never seen before--a distinct, raised line in the lower part of the shield. To my eyes, that doesn't appear to be a die chip, but a mark that was struck into the die across several shield elements (see arrows). Has anyone seen this mark before on the 1922 3d? I've put the cursor on the image and can see it now and it's still there so I still believe it's a die scratch and the first I've seen on the 22 tray. Perhaps a file mark, or something punched directly punched into the die? Usually file marks I see show smaller, parallel scoring. I should take a closer look. Report this Post to the Staff
