Thanks to a friend, I got this fantastic 1933/2 overdate to study.
I've been looking for months, and he found me an especially nice example.

A particularly interesting aspect of this coin is how much detail it shows to suggest the process used to create this variety.
Judging by the details on 93, clearly this coin was double-hubbed with the 1933 date versus a correction made to simply the last digit.

When studying die varieties, I've found it's useful to shoot from several lighting angles to bring out different details.
The second shot has brought out a little raised detail in the lower half of the 3 that suggests the diagonal of the underlying 2.
Taking a tracing of a 2 from a 1932 penny helps show how various features of the digit match up.
This is also a good example of how details drop out on overdates when a die is resurfaced before a new date is impressed.
That's probably the case with the right-hand outer curve of the 2.

Hello KurtS ... There are actually two different varieties with the 1932/3 overdate that I know of. Check out these side-by-side shots and see what you think. Sorry images not real flash - were taken with a pretty ordinary video camera long ago as matter of fact. Anyway ....

Goodasgold, sorry I didn't respond sooner--thank you for providing the comparison photos!
From what I can tell, my coin matches your left photo--that's nice to know.

Actually KurtS, have since been told by expert on Aust varieties that my right picture isn't an overdate as I first thought; but of course left one is. He adds however, that other slight variations of 1933/32 overdate do exist.

Also hear that this overdate is in some demand of late, as recent prices seem to suggest. So just like me, it appears we both scored our O/D's at about the right time.

Cheers, Les
