Since I am new here, is this a common problem which is usually caught by inspection and eliminated from public release, or some kind of delayed disintegration which comes out long after the coin is released into circulation? For big ones like you have with coin, it seems to be worth saving them in a 2x2 to protect the partially attached metal. Cujohn Pillar of the Community United States 7174 Posts	Posted 09/29/2023 3:13 pm to the CCF and nice lam. Lams are caused by the copper not being mixed well enough or impurities in the metal. When they roll to specs the impurities don't mix with the good metal. Or it might be a spot is cooler than the rest and doesn't get mixed. They are there before the coin is minted. They can't filter out the lams, just like they can't filter out the minor die chips, breaks, and cracks. Report this Post to the Staff
