We had to disable automatic quoting of posts years ago, because people kept abusing it. So it has to be done manually. In the quick-reply box, to quote sombody: 1. Type the word qoute in square brackets: [quote] 2. Copy and paste the text you wish to quote 3 Type the word /quote in square brackets: [/quote]
Thus, typing [quote]Not sure how to quote another post in my reply.[/quote] will give you this:

If you are in Full Reply mode, pressing the "insert quote" button (it looks like a letter with a red arrow coming out of it) simply automatically types [quote][/quote] for you - you still need to manually copy and paste the actual text you wish to quote in between those two quote commands.
