I don't like the design much, but I agree that the silver proof looks much better than the clad circulating version. i wonder if the designer was influenced by the £2 coin issued by The Royal Mint in 2012 to commemorate Charles Dickens? Circulation coins will be worthless while the mint state will be the conditional rarities.
