Hello, all!
I was perusing circulated commemorative half population numbers, and I noticed Worn Out's AG-03 wasn't showing up as the lowest graded York. This is very, very interesting - PCGS is now showing a PO-01 York half dollar. Now, this is a rather rare issue simply under AU, so a "low as it gets" coin seems to be quite the surprise.
I didn't see this coin featured in any of the Top 5 lowball commemorative sets, so I figured I'd post here and see if it belongs to anyone and, if so, could they post a picture!
Regardless - what a reminder! They're still out there, apparently.

Possibly it is one of one. Probably it was somebodys long time pocket piece. Be interested to see it though.

100% a pocket piece. You can achieve this with any coin.

Seems to me that a P01 pocket piece would've LONG since lost its appeal as a conversation piece, LOL.

Quote: You must be new to the circulated commemorative "thing" Yeah. I have carried dollar and half dollar pocket pieces, but never a commemorative. In any case, I'd have given the coin up as a worthy conversation piece before it was completely slicked out.

It's certainly not mine. I had the York at #2 on my list of circulated commemorative stoppers - and my AU55 example does not even meet my own criteria of being XF45 or lower. Quote: 100% a pocket piece. You can achieve this with any coin. True that - if you have the patience for it. When I was actively pursuing a circulated commemorative type set I was interested in acquiring coins which had honorably served our nations commerce. I had no interest at all in how low the grade was - in that sense I was not a lowball collector so this PO01 York would not have appealed to me.

I would like to see that PO1 lowball coin to see if the date was still readable.

Quote: I would like to see that PO1 lowball coin to see if the date was still readable. The date does not need to be present to positively ID this coin. The 1936 York County (ME) is a 1-year type coin minted only at Philadelphia. Any design detail remaining that can be identified as belonging to the York half would positively identify the coin - hence a PO01 York could practically be a slick with just a hint of design showing anywhere. Not a very appealing coin to me - hence my lack of interest in lowball commemorative but rather in honestly circulated commemorative that have honorably served our nations commerce.
