They get paid by top-notch companies to rate coins and are considered "Experts," something that I would guess all of us are not in this field. psuman08 Pillar of the Community United States 1792 Posts	Posted Yesterday 09:33 am Follow up on this one. I went to a local coin show a few weeks ago and shared this coin with a trustworthy dealer. They suggested that there was a slight wipe on the chin that probably caused the details grade. I never saw this on the coin, but if you hold it at a specific angle, you can see that there is a slight discoloration to that area. I'm still pretty sure this would straight grade at PCGS / NGC, maybe not. This was worth the cost for the education. Report this Post to the Staff

I would never consider sending a coin to them for slabbing. especially when it costs the same as PCGS. if this was mine would crack this one out and either leave it raw or send it to PCGS or NGC. the problem now is that the difference between 63 and 64 is that grading costs would chew up the value of the coin as it sits. I would definitely not leave her in that slab though Report this Post to the Staff
psuman08 Pillar of the Community United States 1792 Posts	Posted Today 1H 21M ago @panzaldi, CACG is much cheaper for Morgan and Peace dollars valued under $500. That is why I sent in these common dates - it's $15 vs. PCGS economy $23 which is limited to $300 value (or it is $40). I also got my coins back in 2 weeks vs 2 months. You are not wrong on what the value is between a 63 or 64 may not make it worth it, but it seems CACG graded items sell for significantly more. I doubt I will send another batch to CACC anytime soon.
