Bacchus2 Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 2903 Posts	Posted Yesterday 06:39 am Hi, I have this Continental Sterling Henry III Imitation Penny but I'm not sure if it can be narrowed down any more. I've scanned the excellent "https://sterlingimitations.com/" but can't seem to locate it. The obverse lettering seems to be ?EVST?RV? Perhaps just a corruption of hENRICVS REX by an engraver who didn't quite understand what he was copying The reverse has "ON LVND" quite clearly - but the preceding letters are not clear - perhaps a corruption of NICOLE I do like these Sterling imitations. I wonder if it could be a double strike, or a counterfeit? The reverse is more readable, and because of the two crosses (though neither is quite a cross and might be an I or I' ?), it leaves options on where exactly to begin. If I start at 1:00 I see + RON . LVNDe + RVNDG If I start at 9:00 it's more like RVNDGI'RON . LVNDE And the obverse is more difficult ... I see more or less what you do maybe eVST GVS ?
