Best of the Mint 1916 Gold/Silver Walking Liberty half Dollar/medal sale begins in two days (Thursday 8/6/26) and nothing but tumbleweeds on this forum. Is this a testament as to the popularity (or lack thereof) of this series? Well the dime and quarter haven't sold out, so I anticipate a similar fate for this even more costly release. Interest for the upcoming 1804 dollar on the 27th should be a lot more keen. Assuming a 30,000 producton limit for that release my guess is that it sells out---eventually. Of course buzz for the 3 Comic Art releases is already reaching fever pitch (sarcasm intended). Exciting numismatic times. |

I'm sure that the mint has some convoluted reasoning for why they felt the need to rehash rare coins from our past and comic book heroes this year in particular, but I really wish they had used this opportunity to issue more coins / medals celebrating our actual history.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

A lot of people are completely put off by the exorbitant pricing. This set is probably going to run around $3k.

Yeah, speaking for myself, availability of funds for numismatic adventures is quite limited at the moment.

This is old news! They released those exact coins in 2016. Couldn't they have picked other coins? I already have a 2016 gold Mercury dime, I don't need a 2026 gold Mercury dime that costs twice as much as my 2016. |

I might be wrong about this, but I seem to recollect that the subjects for this year's "Best of the Mint" coins were arrived at via a public poll. I remember being surprised at the results because I, as well, thought, "Didn't we just do this not that long ago?"
The coin I'd really like to see reproduced is the 1915 $50 Pan-Pacific octagonal, but I've never seen anyone express a similar sentiment.
How about a gold version of the 1955 doubled die? They could charge double the price of gold for that one!

I tried a similar thread a week or so ago. The dime only has 8 sets for sale right now. It has been coming and going since it was released. The standing liberty hasn't sold well at all. I doubt the walking this week does very well either. Price is the big factor. I'm not sure why we did them these all again after just a few years. The medals on their own would have done really well. I like the series but the price is going to get big really fast now.

Having the 2016 Re-Makes, Dime, Quarter, Half,    I would Love to of been able to receive the 2026 Gold coins to " complete the sets ". Not in my future.  Sometimes, I have to throw in the towel... |

How cool would modern versions of the $2.50, $5 and $10 Indians have been rather than the re-makes of 2016?

I like the idea immediately above. I would also support a redo of the $20 Liberty gold. I especially like the design on the reverse. I know this is blasphemous, but in many ways I prefer it to the St. Gauden's version, probably because the St. Gaudens coin has been done to death, so I've seen it so much, or I'm just a contrarian.
