Nor does it seem to match any D/D repunched mint mark on Variety Vista or Wexler. Nevertheless, it has a strange and compelling shape. If you look at the roof of Monticello you can see what looks like Machine Doubling across the left side of the dome and on the right half of the roof. It appears to be in the same direction as the doubling on the mm. Hard to tell for sure. Report this Post to the Staff

There's not much that can be done with the seller's overexposed pictures to make a better determination. I had noticed that there appeared to be some counterclockwise Machine Doubling on some of the upper letters from K2 leftwards. That horizontal line through the middle of the D just triggers my curiosity. Almost certainly a die scratch, but it's also where the middle of an S would be. But as I have sometimes said: I am curious, but I am not $9 curious. Report this Post to the Staff
