Instead, a piece of scrap metal made its way into the coining press. Weighing just 16.3 grains, this elliptical-shaped scrap retains partial design details and is PCGS PR63. There's a good chance that it is the detached tab from an off-center half dollar. These sometimes break away from the unstruck portion of the coin during the strike.
