I have some concerns about this coin. The 1879 is a better date, worth a premium in mint state grades. This one might make MS-60.

However, the date digits look abnormally large. The Liberty Head portrait looks misplaced to the left, rather than properly centered. The edge of the eagle's tail looks ragged, without the correct curved bottom shape. I'd like to see some more photos. I'd recommend you get an accurate weight and see if you can get an XRF test at a coin or jewelry shop. If everything checks out you might send it out for certification.

If genuine it's obviously valuable. Hope it's OK!

I agree with jaobler. The first thing I noticed was the large date. I would have it authenticated and if legit I'd send it in. For grading.

In his original post, he noted the coin has already been sold for a little over spot.
