Apparently NGC revised its Guarantee on June 2, 2026. The NGC Guarantee ( https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-gradin...-guarantee/)Subject to the terms, conditions, and limitations specified below, an NGC-certified coin, token, or medal (collectively, a "Coin") encapsulated in an NGC holder is guaranteed to be: Genuine (except for NGC Ancients-graded Coins, for the reasons explained here); and Not overgraded (meaning that it is not graded higher than NGC's Grading Standards) In addition, it is guaranteed that NGC "Authentic Hand-Signed" labels have a genuine autograph from the person identified on the NGC label. For purposes of this Guarantee, the term "NGC" shall include any of the Guarantors listed below. WARNING: THIS GUARANTEE IS LIMITED IN BOTH SCOPE AND TIME. Any claim under this Guarantee MUST be submitted to NGC BY NO LATER THAN TEN (10) YEARS FROM THE DATE OF GRADING. By making a claim under this Guarantee, Owner (as defined below) agrees to be bound by all of the terms, conditions, limitations, and EXCLUSIVE remedies provided below and waives its right to all other remedies including, without limitation, any and all legal claims asserted through litigation or arbitration.Does this change your opinion of NGC? Judging by comments on other coin forums, some will not buy or be very cautious buying NGC coins. Some are also suggesting that it is retroactive others that this makes NGC a 3rd tier grader). This does not change my opinion of them. 10 years is long enough to get something corrected if need be. Also, copper can turn from red to brown over years and standards can change for coins.

So does this include the NGC Guarantee to authenticity? As in, after 10 years somebody could discover the coin is fake and have no remedy?

@NumismaticsFTW, copper has not been guaranteed for years by any of the grading companies
@CollegeBarbers, that is correct - but you can get it regraded to get another 10 years!
Do they not trust their grading that they think standards will get tougher or is this just a money grab? Imaging buying an MS-65, sending it in at its 10-year deadline to have it regrade as a 64.

Some further clarification, this only applies to coins graded from June 2026 forward.
It was also shared that the 10-year period can be extended by submitting a collectible for regrade before the Guarantee expires.

Quote: Psuman08, is this clarification on the NGC website? It is from a question asked on the NGC forum that Scott Schechter, NGC, VP answered: "Mark Feld emailed me asking for clarification on the Guarantee. The 10-year time limit applies only to collectibles graded on June 2, 2026, or later. It does not apply retroactively. Right now, the 10-year period can be extended by submitting a collectible for regrade before the Guarantee expires. Well before this date approaches, however, we'll introduce simple mechanisms for collectors and dealers to extend the coverage. I understand the concerns about this change as I am also a collector. In practical terms, its impact will be limited for at least the next decade, and coverage for those graded subsequently can be extended, with some collector-forward innovations forthcoming to enable this.
