Not being familiar with these coins. One is 1857 only decent wear but some rim damage.   One is 1857O with honest wear.   Would be happy to get your opinions. Also have no idea of the value of these coins. |

I agree with ShadowCreator's grades. In addition to the rim damage on the 1857, there also looks to be big scratches on the reverse. It's hard to put a value on a problem coin. The 1857-O Half Dime is worth about $18.00 according to the greysheet. |

Is that damage enough to qualify? I mean it is obvious damage in the photo, but this is a Half Dime, those things are pretty tiny. I would not expect the reverse scratches to be visible to the eye, and the rim ding to be smaller then 1 mm. |

Probably, because when grading services grade these, they basically look at them under a microscope. Of course, if the scratch was a bit less pronounced and the coin was a key date, it would be a different story...

I would say the first is choice VF with damage to the rim and reverse scratches. Net VG. I would put the second at VG+ to F12 range.

Thanks for your opinions!
I did indeed not notice the scratch until I made a scan of it. The rim damage is well visible.
