Not being familiar with these coins.
One is 1857 only decent wear but some rim damage.

I agree with ShadowCreator's grades. In addition to the rim damage on the 1857, there also looks to be big scratches on the reverse. It's hard to put a value on a problem coin. The 1857-O Half Dime is worth about $18.00 according to the greysheet.

Is that damage enough to qualify? I mean it is obvious damage in the photo, but this is a Half Dime, those things are pretty tiny. I would not expect the reverse scratches to be visible to the eye, and the rim ding to be smaller then 1 mm.

Probably, because when grading services grade these, they basically look at them under a microscope. Of course, if the scratch was a bit less pronounced and the coin was a key date, it would be a different story...

I would say the first is choice VF with damage to the rim and reverse scratches. Net VG. I would put the second at VG+ to F12 range.

I did indeed not notice the scratch until I made a scan of it. The rim damage is well visible.
