For some reason, this variety is the hardest for me to determine. Some varieties are obvious it is a near but there are a few I can not tell. This is one of them and just sold on ebay as a near. Is it a near or far?

I'm no expert, but I think it stands a chance at being far. Wow!

There are 4 different "near" 6's. This is one of them.

Looks like a "far 6" to me..

The near top point of the 6 is a lot closer to the leaf.

What did it go for?

There is no doubt this is a near 6. A far 6 has the date equally (each digit) from the rim. A far 6 will also show the 6 rotated away froim the leaf. This is a near 6. 6-10.00 dollar coin in f12

Thanks coinsrfun. I feel a little better now on 'missing out'. I knew there were a few different near 6 dies and this is one of them that tricks me. Does anyone know where I can see pictures of the different ones online or in a book (I assume they are in Zoell's book?)

The coin sold for $22.35. Here's the link

M, I bet that most, if not all TPG,s will garde it as a far 6!
they do not have your knowledge when it comes to nickels.
and they look at this coin for max 8 seconds......and designate FAR.
yep...

Not the company I deal with. Cause we like nickels. Like the 1908 ROF MM

Perhaps Louis is different...ONLY perhaps.
But I am fairly sure that most others would slab it a far.
BUT the big question is: what is it? it may be a near... but another version than normal?

If anyone has picks of all 4 'Near' Varieties please post. I'm sure a lot of us would like it as reference in the event we see a Near 6 for sale and wonder if it might be a far.
