does this look like a D over S, or just a stange damage mark?

It's a 1954 Jefferson nickel. I ask because they do list a D/S, but I'm not real sure. cannot find any pics.

Hi tershaffer!

There is a variety listed as a 1954-D/S in the Cherrypicker's Guide. But I have examined the one coin, and it's appearance is different than yours.

I see what you're looking at, and it looks interesting. I wouldn't want to get your hopes up- but I'd examine it for you if you'd like. I can take some high-res images and email them to you.

Might just tell you that I dunno- but I can't tell you what it isn't from digital images.

Looks like you've got a pretty good eye!
