Its hard to get decent pictures of these smaller coins. Still, what do you think? Whats the story behind the coins with hearts/no hearts and/or stops/no stops?

This applies to the shillings and sixpences. In 1786, when the design was prepared, the "hearts" were omitted from the Arms of Brunswick (at 9 o'clock with the date at the bottom). Some 1787 coins are without, but later ones have the hearts shown correctly.

Here is my 1787 sixpence, with hearts. I am also including an enlargement of the Arms of Brunswick, shown correctly!

Further, regarding the "stops".

Just remember that in those days, the dies were made individually. Someone forgot the punctuation - nothing unusual when working on something that small with hand tools.
