1909 Lincoln VDB Find - To Clean Or Not?

cinemabon Valued Member United States 154 Posts	Posted 10/20/2011 07:35 am Stored, unfortunately, in an old 1949 paper Whitman holder, No. 9004, I found my brother's penny collection. The paper has damaged the surface of this 1909 with the initials of Victor D. Brenner on the back, designer of the Lincoln Cent. While not rare (over 27 million were minted; only the "S" and proof are rare), I do feel it is nice to have it in my collection. However, due to the surface problems, I wondered if I should "restore" the coin by having it cleaned. What are your thoughts? Report this Post to the Staff

Still nice to have as a hole filler as these coins are getting scarcer to find as the years go by. If you needed to sell would go for 10 to 12 bucks. Maybe a little more if someone really wanted one. actually it is not that bad as far as condition. Seen a lot worse that's for sure. Report this Post to the Staff

I use to hoard 1909 VDBs when I had 5 rolls I sold them for my house I live in now :) They are a more secure savings account then silver even more so if you can pick them up for the right price! It's stuck inside a 2x2 and that's where it will stay for my son to appreciate when in later years he shrugs off his teenage angst and finally appreciates dad... hopefully before I croak!
