2001-P Five Cent Die Break Evolution

staircase Valued Member Canada 241 Posts	Posted 07/07/2011 8:18 pm Hi there, this is my first post attempt. The 2001P Canadian nickel has many errors ranging from a double P to a truncated P. What I have stumbled onto is a set of examples that basically show the evolution of a die break. The die break is along the base of the neck line. Photo one shows the dimple, the beginning of a die failure. Photo two shows the die break somewhere in the midpoint of it's life. Photo three shows the end result of the die failure. Perhaps there is a more accentuated example of the final stage, but this is all I have managed to find thus far. I hope the photos are clear and I thought I'd pass this along for information. staircase Valued Member Canada 241 Posts	Posted 07/08/2011 11:19 am Hi there, thanks for the comments and the welcome! Many months ago I found a couple of the 2001P's with the large metal deposit. Within the past two weeks I lucked into the first two shown to complete the set. There are probably more that would lie in between, but that would involve a lot more searching. I'm hoping that lady luck is smiling and that only a few hundered escaped the quality control inspection. If anyone out there has similar examples, please let me know. I wish you happy hunting!
