I'd go at least VF-30 based on Liberty and Tail Feathers detail. IMHO

It is crazy to me how you can see such detail on these coins and they grade lower. I looked at this coin and thought for sure XF (I'm new to grading). I have a lot to learn though.

I'm not so sure you're wrong. Judging from the remaining hair detail and excellent shield, wing and leg feathers, I'd call this one a bare minimum of XF40 with a somewhat flat obverse strike.

I would say around XF because of the wear on the face, shoulder, chest, legs and some on the wings, talons and arrows, an overall nice coin with a nice tone too.

It's got two perfectly parallel hairlines on the obverse, which are so faint I didn't see them until I went to photograph the coin. Something must have been dragged across the coin at some point in its life.

Other than that minor little issue, I love the surfaces. I got it for low VF money, so I have nothing to complain about!

Looks EF-40 IMO, with original "crusty" surfaces and natural toning. The hairlines and assorted contact marks are not severe enough to qualify as "problems". This is a very nice type coin and it sounds like you got a good deal. Congrats!
