I've often wondered if those coins sold with a "platinum" plating or Gold plating - were magnetic. I guess the Nickel plated ones are. Neat find though.

I have a penny here somewhere (or did have) that I had on my desk for about a year and its a silver color also but it was copper color when I sat it there. I don't know what caused it but the copper coating has been eaten off of it and I am betting this is what happened here also
